High sensitivity. Controlled directivity. Immersive scale.

Model 12 is the core of Datum’s loudspeaker line. It is a 12-inch coaxial design that delivers extended performance, remarkable dynamics, and the coherence of a point source monitor. Built for serious listening and larger spaces, Model 12 brings the experience of live music into your home without sacrificing nuance.

The heart of your system.

Model 12 is engineered to be the anchor in a reference‑level system. While many loudspeakers claim full‑range status, few deliver the combination of high sensitivity, controlled dispersion and low‑fatigue voicing that define live music realism. Model 12 reaches deep enough to stand on its own yet leaves room for subwoofers to extend the bottom octave when desired. Its presentation is immediate and vivid, inviting you to engage with recordings at both moderate and enthusiastic listening levels.

A balanced architecture.

At its core is a professional 12-inch coaxial driver. This large diaphragm moves air effortlessly, yielding high acoustic output with minimal distortion. The compression driver sits deep within a precisely shaped conical horn that maintains constant directivity across a broad frequency range. High sensitivity (around 93 dB 1 W/1 m) and ample dynamic headroom allow Model 12 to reproduce complex transients without compression or strain. The passive crossover integrates the two elements seamlessly, with special attention paid to phase alignment and off‑axis response.

What Sets Us Apart

An instrument of steel and wood.

Model 12’s cabinet is crafted from 1-inch Baltic Birch for rigidity and resonance control. The front baffle, milled from a dense composite, adds mass and absorbs energy. Machined stainless steel grilles offer protection with minimal coloring to the sound.

Designed for real spaces.

Model 12’s controlled dispersion reduces unwanted reflections from ceilings and side walls, yielding a more precise soundstage. Its directivity balances focus and room involvement: on‑axis sound is clear and precise, while off‑axis energy is even, ensuring a coherent presentation. Thanks to its’ high sensitivity, Model 12 performs confidently in larger rooms where lesser speakers would struggle.

Live dynamics, low fatigue.

The combination of efficient drivers, controlled directivity and carefully voiced crossovers means you can listen for hours without fatigue. Percussion retains its snap, voices retain their body, and the space around instruments feels natural. Model 12 is equally adept at complex recordings, intimate trios, and modern music production.
